Dover, Del., native Madison Brengle recorded her first singles win at Wimbledon on Monday, beating Richel Hogenkamp of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-3.

Brengle, 27, has been on the WTA Tour since 2005. In 2015, she rose to No. 35 in the global rankings. That year, she reached the fourth round at the Australian Open, beating then-No. 13 seed Andrea Petkovic along the way. She also got in the Wimbledon main draw for the first time, and reached the third round at the U.S. Open. It was the first year that she played in all four majors, as she got into the French Open for the second time in her career – and the first since 2008.

In 2016, she reached the third round at the 2016 Australian Open, and was in the main draw of all four Grand Slam tournaments for the second straight year. But she did not win another match at a Grand Slam until this summer.

This year, Brengle lost in the first round of the Australian Open, then got her first French Open win by beating Julia Goerges of Germany in the first round.

Brengle made her grand-slam debut in 2007, playing the Australian and U.S. Opens. She then played the Australian and French Opens in 2008, and did not reach another major until the 2014 U.S. Open.

Outside of the slams, this year started off on a bright note, as she beat Serena Williams at a tournament in Auckland, New Zealand that was a warm-up for the Australian Open. That was just her third win over a played ranked in the global top 10.

Her best singles finish in a WTA tournament came in 2015, when she reached the final of the Hobart International in Australia.

Brengle also plays in grand-slam doubles events. She reached the second round at the French Open in 2015 and again this year, and the third round in 2016; she reached the second round of Wimbledon last year. She is not in this year's Wimbledon women's doubles field.

Currently, Brengle is ranked No. 95 in the global singles rankings and No. 100 in the global doubles ranking. Her next match at the All England Club will be Wednesday against No. 11 seed Petra Kvitova.
