AFL announces ESPN schedule for 2014 season

ESPN and the Arena Football League unveiled the broadcast schedule for the 2014 season Thursday.

ESPN will air more than 100 AFL games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS and ESPN3.

Eleven of those 100 games will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNEWS while the other 90 will be shown on ESPN3.

The Philadelphia Soul will open the televised portion of the schedule Sunday, April 27 when they host the Iowa Barnstormers at the Wells Fargo Center. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN2 at 4 p.m.

The schedule will end with ArenaBowl XXVII Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. The AFL has yet to announce whether or not the game will take place at a neutral site like it has the last two seasons.

The Soul will appear on ESPN's airwaves two more times, starting Sunday, June 1 when they host the San Antonio Talons at 5 p.m. Their final appearance will be Saturday, June 7 when they hit the road play the Tampa Bay Storm at 5 p.m.

Both games were moved back a day from where they were originally slated to accommodate the national television schedule. Both games will also air on ESPNEWS.

In total, the Soul will play on national television five times in 2014. To go along with three games on ESPN, the Soul are scheduled to play on the CBS Sports Network twice this season.
