Durant trashes new Sixers nickname embraced by Embiid

Ben Simmons has some thoughts about Durant's diss.

Warriors superstar Kevin Durant might be a fan of Joel Embiid, but he's certainly not impressed by the latest nickname that the 76ers star is promoting.

After the Sixers drafted Markelle Fultz with the top pick in Thursday's NBA draft, an excited Embiid took to Twitter to tout a new nickname for the team's young foursome, the "FEDS" — after Fultz, himself, Dario Saric, and Ben Simmons.

During a discussion with Warriors teammates JaVale McGee and Andre Iguodala before a celebrity softball game in Oakland, Calif., on Sunday, the NBA Finals' MVP offered his thought on the nickname.

"How they got a nickname and ain't played no games together?" Durant said, chuckling.

Obviously, the nickname is all in good fun, but Durant does have a point. Despite all the excitement in Philadelphia over the selection of Fultz, only Saric saw significant playing time last season for the Sixers (though both he and Embiid are nominated for the Rookie of the Year award, which will be announced Monday night).

Despite that, Sixers fan Alex Schinker‏ called out the Warriors superstar, noting that "at least they didn't come join together after the Sixers already won 73 games the year before."

Durant responded, clarifying that while he was a fan of all four players, he thought the FEDS nickname was garbage.

After seeing the back-and-forth on Twitter, Simmons, last year's No. 1 pick, who sat out all last season because of a Jones fracture in his right foot, decided to end the discussion by putting the emphasis back onto the court.

Judging by his Instagram account, Simmons isn't messing around.
