DALLAS - Jameer Nelson's numbers are the worst of his career.

The former Chester High and St. Joseph's standout signed with the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason after a decade with the Orlando Magic. The point guard averaged 12.6 points and 5.4 assists over his career in Orlando. He finished with just two points in Thursday's 123-70 victory over the Sixers.   For the season, he's averaging a career-low 6.8 points and 3.6 assists.

The 11th-year veteran's field-goal percentage (33.8) is also the lowest of his career. But he says he's not concerned.

Nelson said that playing with energy is more important than scoring. "I mean, whatever it takes [to get a win]," he said.

He was asked if the Sixers contacted him after he was released by Orlando this summer.

"Pretty every team contacted me," said Nelson, who mentored players as Orlando struggled for the last three seasons.

But Nelson wanted to be a part of a championship contender instead of a rebuilding job.

"I was ready to get back to this atmosphere of being around veteran guys," he said. "I enjoyed my time in Orlando, especially the last two years of helping and teaching. But it's time to get back to playing and winning."
