Sixers Notes: 76ers could move Wroten to shooting guard when MCW rerurns

The 76ers are considering sliding Tony Wroten to shooting guard once Michael Carter-Williams returns to the court. Wroten has started at point guard while Carter-Williams rehabilitates his right shoulder. The 2013-14 rookie of the year will participate in his first full scrimmage on Thursday. He is expected to play in his first game Nov. 13 against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center.

"He's played well enough," coach Brett Brown said of Wroten. "Yeah, he has."

The problem with pairing Carter-Williams and Wroten is that neither is a recognized shooter. But Brown said that Wroten is good enough to make the move and deserves to be on the floor.

If that happens, look for shooting guard Hollis Thompson to slide to small forward. Then small forward Luc Mbah a Moute would move to power forward.

Wroten said he and Carter-Williams have talked in the past about the opportunity to team up in the backcourt.

"I feel like both being point guards who can both play both positions can help us a lot," Wroten said. "We are both big guards that can rebound and kick out fast. So I'm looking forward to it and excited to see Mike come back."

Brown said he expected Jerami Grant to return to practice Wednesday for the shootaround, but that didn't happen. The former Syracuse standout has not practiced since he suffered from dehydration during training camp. He also has been sidelined with a sprained right ankle.

K.J. 'coming around'

K.J. McDaniels is quietly having a successful start to his NBA career. The second-round pick scored only two points in the opener, but he averaged 11.3 points in the three games heading into Wednesday.

"K.J. is coming around, learning the league, trying to understand how to use his natural skills and parlay that into an NBA setting," Brown said Tuesday. "How many athletes do you see that can shoot the three and guard? That's a good start."

New additions

The Sixers hired Phil Jabour as director of scouting development. Danny Mills was named the team's international scout.

Vince Rozman is the team's new director of basketball operation and scouting. He had been the scouting coordinator.
