Anderson could get his chance with Sixers

James Anderson didn't know what to expect when the 76ers plucked him off the waiver wire back in July.

Two months later, the San Antonio Spurs' 2010 first-round pick finally has a chance to become a full-time starter.

The 6-foot-6 swingman has started alongside Michael Carter-Williams, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young, and Spencer Hawes during the first two days of the Sixers training camp at St. Joseph's.

"He finds ways to score," Turner said after Sunday's morning practice. "He's really calm. He knows how to play."

Playing time has been hard to come by for the four-year veteran.

The 24-year-old started a total of six games in three seasons with the Spurs and the Houston Rockets. He and Sixers teammate Tim Ohlbrecht were waived by Houston after the Orlando Pro Summer League. Anderson averaged 3.7 points and 11.1 minutes while shooting 39.1 percent overall and 33.3 percent on three-pointers in 116 career appearances.

"My skill-set is shooting the open threes, and I can defend on the other side, too," Anderson said of his expected role. "So I just want to bring my abilities to this young group and use it to our advantage."
