Hinkie looks to add to Sixers roster

The 76ers aren't done adding players.

General manager Sam Hinkie said he will make roster moves "in a lot of ways" in the weeks leading up next month's training camp.

"In training camp, you can have up to 20 players," Hinkie said. "I'm not the kind of guy that you can say that likes to miss out on opportunities.

"The chance to have 20 is another chance to learn more about people."

The Sixers have 14 players on their roster. Two of them - Nerlens Noel and Jason Richardson - won't be available at the start of the season because of injuries.

Hinkie wouldn't name specific players the Sixers are interested in. But it hardly matters since most NBA observers believe the team is playing for position in what is expected to be a talent-rich 2014 draft. The Sixers are not expected to jeopardize that by bringing in veterans who will make a real difference.

Expect the Sixers to bring in a few undrafted rookie free agents.

Don't be surprised if former Temple standout Khalif Wyatt receives a training camp invitation and spends some time with the Sixers during the regular season. The 6-foot-4 guard could fill a void on a team in desperate need of a long-range shooter.

The Norristown native stood out for the Sixers in the Orlando Summer League. Wyatt averaged a team-best 13.8 points per game, or an analytic-friendly one point per 1.4 minutes. Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo, the second overall pick, averaged one point per 1.7 minutes.

But the Sixers were even more impressed with Wyatt's ballhandling, passing, and leadership. After initially looking out of place, Wyatt was effective running the offense.

Unsigned: Sixers rookies Michael Carter-Williams, and Noel, both first-round picks, remain unsigned.

The Sixers will eventually sign them, but for now, they can maximize their cap space by keeping Noel and Carter-Williams off the books.

Noel, who was selected sixth overall by New Orleans before the Sixers acquired him in a trade involving Jrue Holiday, will have a cap hold of $2,643,600. Selected 11th by the 76ers, Carter-Williams' cap hold will be $1,834,100.

Trade becomes official: The Sixers' trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Tony Wroten became official on Thursday. The team gave up a protected second-round pick for the 6-6 guard.
