In the season of giving, Charlotte Bobcats rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist decided to give back to the Somerdale (Camden County) area where he grew up.

Kidd-Gilchrist, 19, targeted Sterling Elementary Basketball, a league made up of the elementary schools - Magnolia, Somerdale Park, Hi-Nella and Laurel Springs - that feed Sterling High School.

Through his parents, Vincent and Cindy Richardson, Kidd-Gilchrist donated 150 gray Jordan Brand T-shirt jerseys Tuesday night to players at Somerdale Park. He also donated 150 backpacks.

"Giving back is just something that has always been instilled and ingrained in him," Cindy Richardson said of Kidd-Gilchrist, who played in the league.

Kidd-Gilchrist was in Los Angeles for Tuesday night's Bobcats game against the Lakers.

"This is phenomenal," said Dallas Carter, the league president. "The organization struggled because of a lack of funding. We struggle with uniforms. We struggle with facilities." - Keith Pompey
