Nets win belated Brooklyn debut

Brooklyn made a winning return to major pro sports Saturday night as the Nets beat the Toronto Raptors, 107-100, in the first game at Barclays Center.

Brooklyn made a winning return to major pro sports Saturday night as the Nets beat the Toronto Raptors, 107-100, in the first game at Barclays Center.

After a 55-year wait that was extended a couple of extra days by Hurricane Sandy, the borough finally has a team of its own again, and the Nets think it's going to be a good one.

Brook Lopez scored 27 points, and Deron Williams added 19 points and nine assists for the Nets.

A sold-out crowd of 17,732 that included entertainers Jay-Z, a part-owner, and wife Beyoncé chanted "Brooklyn! Brooklyn!" during the game and loudly at the end.

Elsewhere: Paul Pierce scored 27 points, and the Boston Celtics beat the Washington Wizards, 89-86, in Washington for their first victory. . . . Ray Allen's four-point play with 6.7 seconds left put Miami ahead for good, Chris Bosh scored 40 points, and the Heat held off the Denver Nuggets, 119-116, in Miami. . . . George Hill scored 18 points, including the first four in the second overtime, to lead the Indiana Pacers past the Sacramento Kings, 106-98, in Indianapolis. . . . Brandon Jennings hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Milwaukee Bucks a 105-102 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Milwaukee. The referees used video replay to confirm the shot had left Jennings' hand with one-tenth of a second left on the clock. . . . Tony Parker had 24 points and 10 assists to help the San Antonio Spurs beat the Utah Jazz, 110-100, in San Antonio. . . . O.J. Mayo scored 30 points, and the Dallas Mavericks remained unbeaten with a 126-99 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats in Dallas. . . . Rookie Damian Lillard scored 20 points, including eight in overtime, and the Portland Trail Blazers slowed down James Harden in a 95-85 win over the Houston Rockets in Houston. . . . Greivis Vasquez scored 18 points, and the New Orleans Hornets beat the Chicago Bulls, 89-82, in Chicago.

Coach blasts concussion rule. New Orleans Hornets coach Monty Williams blasted the NBA's protocols for determining when a player can return from a concussion, a day after No. 1 draft pick Anthony Davis suffered a mild one.

"It's a man's game," Williams said. "They're treating these guys like they're 5 years old. He desperately wanted to come [to Chicago], but he couldn't make it."

Nash has leg fracture. Steve Nash has a small fracture in his left leg and will be out of the Los Angeles Lakers' lineup for at least another week.

The Lakers announced the results of their point guard's MRI exam Saturday, throwing yet another complication into their 0-3 start.
