Lavoy Allen officially re-signs with 76ers

ORLANDO - Second-year power forward Lavoy Allen officially re-signed with the 76ers on Wednesday.

The Temple product got a two-year deal reportedly worth about $6 million.

"I wasn't really sure how much I was going to get," Allen said. "I'm just thankful that they offered me to come back and I can be with the 76ers the next two years."

The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Allen averaged 4.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 41 games, including 15 starts, during the regular season. The rookie elevated his play in the postseason, averaging 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds.

"I was real comfortable [in the playoffs], and hopefully that goes over into next season," Allen said.

The 23-year-old, who was drafted 50th overall by the Sixers in 2011, likely will have an increased role this season with the departure of Elton Brand, although he will battle Thaddeus Young and rookie Arnett Moultrie for playing time.

"There are going to be some tough guys to beat out for that position," Allen said.

After flying from Orlando to Philadelphia and back to Orlando in a 12-hour span Tuesday to complete a physical exam before signing his new contract, Allen rejoined the Sixers on Wednesday and made his debut in the Orlando Pro Summer League.

Allen scored six points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out six assists in the Sixers' 79-71 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

"Lavoy does a great job in anchoring the middle for us, and he can make some shots," said Aaron McKie, a Sixers assistant coach and summer-league head coach. "Although he didn't make a ton of them today, he had a flight, he got back on this morning, so it's kind of a rush job for him. Give him a couple of games under his belt and he'll be fine."

Adding Allen certainly helped the Sixers' injury-plagued squad, which was without Moultrie (ankle), fellow rookie forward Maurice Harkless (hip flexor), second-year center Nik Vucevic (Achilles tendon), and summer-league leading scorer Jacob Pullen (ankle).

"I think the whole plan was for me to play with the draft picks, to kind of mentor them a little bit, get them going with the whole offensive and defensive schemes," Allen said, referring to Harkless and Moultrie. "But that didn't work out that way, so I'm going to have to wait until the season starts to play with them."
