His NBA future uncertain because of the lockout, 76ers free-agent forward Darius Songaila signed a 1-year, $1.5 million contract with Galatasaray in Turkey, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein.
Published reports say that his deal includes incentives, but has a no-escape clause in the event the lockout ends, so he will play the entire season in Turkey.
"Darius didn't play a lot of minutes last season in Philadelphia, and with the uncertainty surrounding the lockout, he wanted to make sure he'd play next season," Bartelstein told ESPN.com.
Songaila, 33, a 6-9 Russian native who played at Wake Forest, appeared in only 10 games for the Sixers last season, averaging 1.6 points. In his eight NBA seasons, during which he played for Sacramento, Chicago, Washington and New Orleans, he averaged 6.9 points and 3.4 rebounds. *
