Elton Brand won’t play in tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers at Wells Fargo Center due to a sprained right thumb.

Coach Doug Collins made the announcement following today’s shootaround.

“Elton is out so we will start the way we did the other night,” Collins said.

Brand had said he wanted to see how it felt before the game, but Collins said that wouldn’t be the case.

“EB, it’s hard for him to catch the ball, and if somebody cracks him on the hand or whatever, he is just not ready to play,” Collins said.

Lavoy Allen will again start for the Sixers.

Brand suffered the injury in Friday’s 99-79 loss to Miami and missed Saturday’s victory in Atlanta.

Would have liked to seen mentioned the projected starters, matchups and rotation or at least a guess at what that would be. I guess we'll wait until game time. Go Sixers!

@nceagle. did you stop reading after the first sentence??? "Lavoy Allen will again start for the Sixers", along with hawes, holliday, meeks, and igoudala, the same starting lineup minus brand from the last 100 games the team has played.

Allen's long arms and mobility will help us against the twin towers tonight provided he stays out of foul trouble. Looking forward to seeing how our young big men do tonight.

real tough match up for the sixers tonight. gotta stay out of foul trouble against their 'bigs' and make kobe work for all his shots. let him get his 30 but make him put it up 20-25 times to do it. would be a good night for the 'night shift' to take advantage of l.a.'s thinner bench.

Both rookie bigs will have growing pains. Some nights will be better than others. Hope both get plenty of minutes this year and continue to improve. Also have to keep Hawes healthy. Offense looks better when he is in the middle.

He's a part time player at this point. He needs to have some legs left for the stretch run. Ultimately, I'd like to see the Sixers target Varejao in a trade. He'd be the perfect fit, especially when it comes to defending Bosh and crashing the o-boards.

Against the Heat, EB's legs looked tired, he had no arc on his shot. Similar to how Popivich sits Duncan for entire game when they play 4 out of 5 nights, Sixers should consider not wearing EB out and doing the same. Lots of basketball left and we need all hands on deck. Hoping the kids step up to the plate tonight. Go 76ers Go!
