Tom Eshelman dominates in IronPigs' loss; Threshers finally win

Eshelman's excellent outing (7 IP, 4 hits, no walks) was wasted, and the reliever from Russia continues his hot start for the GCL Phils.

A look at Wednesday's games for the Phillies' farm clubs.

INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE (AAA)

Norfolk 2, Lehigh Valley 0 (11 Inn.): Tom Eshelman's excellent outing (7 IP, 4 hits, no walks) was wasted as the IronPigs couldn't generate any offense.

Eshelman (8-3, 2.58) threw 76 pitches, 58 for strikes. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte gave up a two-run homer to 32-year-old DH Chris Johnson as the Tides walked off with the win.

RHP Yacksel Rios (0-1, 1.10 ERA, 16.1 innings) tossed two more scoreless innings for the 'Pigs (69-54), which have dropped 11 of 13.

RHP Jose Taveras (1-1, 1.59) will make his fourth start of the season for Lehigh Valley on Thursday afternoon at Norfolk.

EASTERN LEAGUE (AA)

Bowie 4, Reading 3: LHP Garrett Cleavinger blew the save by giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Fightin Phils slipped to 63-58.

Cleavinger, acquired from the Orioles in the Jeremy Hellickson deal last month, gave up one run on a wild pitch and another on a single. Cleavinger has given up six earned runs in 7.1 innings in his six appearances for Reading (7.37 ERA).

LH Jiandido Tromp (.289) went 2-for-4 and hit his 15th homer of the season. 3B Damek Tomscha (.330) also went 2-for-4.

FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE (A)

Clearwater 6, St. Lucie 4: Inf. Emmanuel Marrero hit his fifth home run and 3B Zach Green had a two-run double as the Threshers (25-28) snapped a nine-game losing streak.
Mets DH Tim Tebow (.228) was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE (A)

Kannapolis 5, Lakewood 1: RHP Luis Carrasco (0-2, 4.35) gave up three runs in five innings for the loss.

NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE (A)

Auburn 5, Williamsport 1: RHP Andrew Brown gave up nine hits and five runs (four earned) to fall to 2-4, 3.83 ERA for the Crosscutters (25-25).

GULF COAST LEAGUE (Rookie)

Phillies 5, Blue Jays 4: SS Dalton Guthrie homered in his first official professional at-bat and LHP Ethan Lindow (2-1, 1.64) allowed one run in six innings of work for the win.

LH reliever Anton Kuznetsov picked up his third save, but finally gave up his first run of the year. Kuznetsov, who hails from Moscow, has a 0.42 ERA in 21.1 innings over 12 appearances.
