Odubel Herrera, Aaron Altherr activated but still missing from Phillies lineup

NEW YORK — The Phillies arrived here to a pleasant sight Monday. Two of their most productive hitters rejoined them for the season's final month. After a weekend in the minors, Odubel Herrera and Aaron Altherr were activated from the disabled list.

But neither was in the lineup for the matinee against the Mets.

Herrera should play Tuesday, Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. The team's training staff requested that Herrera sit Monday. Altherr is further behind. He was unable to play in a minor-league rehab game over the weekend and still felt some stiffness in his right hamstring.

It is unclear when Altherr could return. Both players were activated Monday because they were not going to play for triple-A Lehigh Valley, and the minor-league season ends Monday. There was nowhere else for them to go.

Altherr said he was "definitely close" to returning, but he did not know what was planned. He has to pass a base-running drill before he plays. He has not faced live pitching since Aug. 4.

"I mean, it'll take me a few at-bats, but it'll be all right," Altherr said. "It usually doesn't take me too long to get used to timing again."

Herrera said he expects to play every remaining game, beginning Tuesday.

"Yes, of course," Herrera said through a team interpreter. "I feel 100 percent."
