Phillies Minor League Report: Pullin's double enough for Thresher win

Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Friday, Aug. 28:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

Lehigh Valley had a night to forget in Central Pennsylvania, falling 7-2 to Scranton Wilkes-Barre. The IronPigs two runs came in the top of the ninth when the game was out of hand.

Severino Gonzalez had a night to forget. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on 12 hits. The Lehigh bullpen was solid, not allowing the RailRiders to extend their lead at all.

Tommy Joseph had the only RBI for the IronPigs, which came on a single in the top of the ninth.

Lehigh Valley travels to Syracuse to start a series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double-A

As has been the case lately, Reading's offense was potent in its 9-4 win over Bowie. The Fightin Phils scored the games final six runs to take the lead and put the game out of reach.

Dylan Cozens had a great game after being called up from Clearwater. He went 1-for-4, but the one hit was a grand slam. Quite a way to break in with a new team.

Joley Rodriguez was lucky his offense bailed him out. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs. He was in line for the loss before the offense came alive.

Bowie and Reading are back at it at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

Clearwater could only manage to score in the fifth inning, but it was good enough for a 2-1 over Brevard County.

Andrew Pullin had a two RBI double in the top of the fifth that was enough for the Clearwater pitching staff to work with.

Ricardo Pinto got the win for the Threshers by going five innings and giving up just one run. The bullpen gave up just three hits.

Clearwater and Brevard County play again Saturday night at 6:35.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

Hagerstown got on the board first, but Will Morris did not let an early run ruin his start. He went seven innings and gave up just the one run in a 4-1 Lakewood win.

Temple alum Matt Hockenberry came in to earn the save.

Seven of nine BlueClaw batters got a hits on the night, with Deivi Grullon being the only player with multiple hits.

Lakewood travels to Greensboro to start a series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

Williamsport Crosscutters – Short-Season A

Williamsport had no problem hitting the ball, it was pushing runners across the plate they struggled with. The Crosscutters managed nine hits, but could not score a run in a 6-0 loss to Batavia.

Four Williamsport batters had multiple hits, but 13 men were left on base.

Alejandro Arteaga took his second loss of the year. He went 5 2/3 innings and gave up five earned runs.

Williamsport and Batavia do battle again at 7:05 p.m.
