Victorino thanks fans with ad in Inquirer and Daily News
Matt Mullin
Athletes taking out full-page ads in local newspapers to thank fans is nothing new, but it is a small gesture that can go a long way towards leaving some good will as they depart from a city.
Today, Shane Victorino placed ads in both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, saying "Mahalo Philadelphia, and to the amazing Phillies fans for all the GREAT memories!"
The Flyin' Hawaiian, as he's known to most fans, was always a class-act during his time in Philadelphia - look no further than his work revitalizing the Nicetown Boys and Girls Club - and continued his goodwill today by thanking the fans.
Mahalo, Shane.

Wish there was some way to bring him back in 2013. Amaro must know he does not have a CF for 2013. then again maybe not. Don w
Sometimes as fans we forget that when a player doesn't do well, that he can still be a good guy.. Shane will always be a good guy!! divergent_dan
Good Luck Victorino and thanks for the great memories! You will always have a place in Philadelphia's heart. Philly1977
Total class act, I hate losing players like Shane!! Especially when I have to read about the great Mick Vick and his book....I mean the dog killer and his (book) way to make more money while telling people to shut up and leave him alone. BTW.....divergent Dan, Shane had one half of a bad year that's it. He was a rule 5 guy that turned himself into a 2 time All Star. Amaziing story then for him to have probably 2-3 of the biggest hits in run to a WS championship in 08. I give him a pass for this year. I'm certain it wasn't only free agency on his mind, it was more the trade deadline. Even if the Phils were killing it they would still have thought about dealing him since they'd lose him at year end. Tough for a guy to play with so much uncertainty Phinally
He could be back, ya never know with RAJ. Cliff Lee is back. gho_matt
Will never forget his grand slam against Sabathia in game 2 of the NLDS in '08, and also his home run to tie the game against the Dodgers before Stairs hit the winning home run. Shane has always been a good guy. He will be missed in Philly. starman76
Nobody should ever wear number 8 again! samruta
Godd riddance hot dog. Your expiration date on good play ended about 3 years ago. Not a very smart hitter and quite an irritating personality in the club house. A know it all and hyper irritant. Self centered but other than that a nice guy. Nice grandslam against CC. He should have been traded 3 years ago. tycobb
Great gesture. Shane will be missed...some good memories left behind. dogman5
You're right samruta, Bob Boone's number SHOULD be retired.
Thatsaid, Victorino had as much to do with the Phils' successful run as any player. Thanks Shane. thewiseone
Mahola, and thanks for being you. I never thought I would favor another center fielder as much as I did Whitey Ashburn but, sad to see you go. Rumrunner11
Tycobb, you were a dirty player and you are a mean spirited blogger. Oh well. Rumrunner11
