Touch 'Em All: Joe Girardi not talking about Alex Rodriguez

The Yankees are aware of the latest round of drug-related allegations surrounding Alex Rodriguez, but as far as manager Joe Girardi is concerned, it is not an issue that will affect his clubhouse.

Major League Baseball, according to the New York Times, believes it has evidence that Rodriguez's people arranged to buy documents from Biogenesis, the defunct South Florida anti-aging clinic at the center of a probe into allegations that it supplied PEDs to some well-known players, A-Rod included.

Rodriguez's people have denied the allegations, and his skipper on Saturday said he felt no need to address the matter.

"It's an MLB issue. That's my reaction," Girardi said. "Do I get a memo on my desk? No. I don't get a memo on my desk. I think everyone probably hears about it when you watch  SportsCenter _ if you choose to watch  SportsCenter."

Hard to argue with that logic.

Furthermore, Girardi said he speaks to Rodriguez about once a week, and when they do it's "strictly rehab."

Rodriguez, meanwhile, is continuing to work his way back from the arthroscopic left-hip surgery he had in January.

Yankees in for a stretch

Speaking of the Yankees, two recent rainouts in Cleveland means they will have to put in some extra work in May, which can be considered a hardship for this aging crew.

The teams will play a traditional doubleheader (one game right after the other) on May 13 at Progressive Field. The date was chosen because it's one of the few mutual off days for the two teams. For the Yankees, however, the makeup comes in what would have been their only day off from May 7 to May 22. Ouch.

The hurt locker

Ten games into his Toronto career, all-star shortstop Jose Reyes has been sidelined until the all-star break because of a severely sprained left ankle suffered during an awkward slide into second base Friday against the Royals.

Athletics leftfielder Yoenis Cespedes was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle in his left hand after he landed awkwardly in a tumbling slide Friday night.

The Cubs put closer Kyuji Fujikawa (1-0, 12.46 ERA) on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm. We expect it won't make much of a difference in this team's fortunes.
