UPDATE, 3:35: Ben Revere tells Ryan Lawrence of the Daily News that he has been traded to Toronto.

UPDATE, 2:51 PM: Ken Rosenthal confirms that the Phillies have a deal in place with Toronto to trade Ben Revere, barring medical reviews.

UPDATE, 2:30 PM: MLB.com's Todd Zolecki is making statements on Twitter that Ruben Amaro has said the Phillies will make another deal before the deadline, and that Ben Revere will go to Toronto. Nothing official is complete as of now.

UPDATE, 11:00 AM: Jon Heyman is now saying that the Blue Jays could be a landing spot for Revere as well, and Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly says talks between Toronto and the Phillies on Revere are 'heating up.' Rosenthal says the chances of a Revere-Orioles deal are '50-50.'

UPDATE, 10:39 AM: Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun is saying that, pending physicals, the Orioles have traded prospect Zach Davies to the Brewers for Gerardo Parra - but Jayson Stark of ESPN says that the Orioles acquiring Ben Revere is still "in play."

UPDATE, 7/31, 9:30 AM: Interest in Ben Revere is coming from the Orioles, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Baltimore beat writer Roch Kubatko of MASN weighed in this morning on the matter. Baltimore has yet to make a move of any significance, and in a division with the competing Yankees and newly dominant Blue Jays, they seem ready to improve somewhere as the clock ticks down.

In their search for left-handed outfield help, the Orioles, who have a recent disinction of making small, but critical, decisions at the trade deadline, are weighing both Revere and the Brewers' Gerardo Parra. Parra, 28, has number superior to Revere (.328/.369/.517, 9 HR, 31 RBI in 323 AB) but would likely cost more than the Orioles would be willing to pay. The Baltimore prospect said to be in the mix is 22-year-old left-handed hurler Zach Davies, currently at triple A Norfolk.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Orioles are the 'best bet' to acquire Parra. Rosenthal says the Orioles are after both Parra and Revere.

FROM YESTERDAY:

After much anticipation, the Phillies pulled the trigger on a deal that sent closer Jonathan Papelbon to the Nationals, and appear to have a deal in place that would put Cole Hamels and reliever Jake Diekman in Rangers uniforms.

Both moves, when complete, would restock the farm system and leave the Phillies in a more optimal position from which to rebuild. But the team may not be done yet, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

This isn't the first time interest in Ben Revere has come up; Revere was said to have garnered the attention of the Pirates, who lost speedy outfielder Josh Harrison to a thumb injury earlier in the year (Pittsburgh was also said to be looking at Jeff Francoeur).

Revere, originally acquired by the Phillies in 2013 in a trade that sent Vance Worley to the Twins, has been prone to prolonged hitting slumps, but has been able to recover enough to hit .304/.331/.363 in his career as a Phillie (and finished tied for seventh in the NL in hits last season with 184). His output relies less on walks to get on base and more on slapping singles. He has almost no power, but his outfield defense seemed to improve after being moved from an everyday center field position to a corner spot.

The Phillies have a player with a similar skill set on the roster in Odubel Herrera, and despite Revere's positive numbers (.298 BA in 362 AB), have not been playing him regularly. At the end of the day, Revere mostly provides value in getting on and stealing bases, something that a contender could view as valuable.
