Bautista's two homers lift Blue Jays past Phillies, 11-6

DUNEDIN, FLA. – Toronto slugger Jose Bautista blasted two mammoth homers leading the Blue Jays to an 11-6 victory today over the Phillies before 5,255 fans in Florida Auto Exchange Stadium

The Phillies are now 5-13-2 on the spring. They jumped off to a 3-0 lead, though, in the second inning when centerfielder Ben Revere tripled with the bases loaded, scoring Ryan Howard, Bobby Abreu and Cody Asche.

The Blue Jays, however, rocked starter Roberto Hernandez for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings. The Blue Jays had 18 hits.

Hernandez, who was tagged with the loss, entered the game with a 2.03 ERA After allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings, his ERA is now 5.29 and his record is 1-1.

The only Phillies pitcher who didn’t allow a run was closer Jonathan Papelbon, who pitched a scoreless inning,

The Blue Jays took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third when the big hit was a two-run homer by Bautista off the scoreboard. He added a two-run homer in the sixth that sailed out of the park between the scoreboard and batters’ eye.

The Phillies tied the game in the fourth when Asche, batting ninth in the order, homered. It was his second homer of the spring.

The tie didn’t last long. The Blue Jays scored three runs in the fourth inning and started to pull away. Bautista added another two-run homer in the seventh inning.

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins ended a long hitless streak with a two-out single in the seventh.

Cody Asche, battling for the third base job, hit a solo homer in the fourth.

The Phillies are now 0-4 vs. the Blue Jays this spring. They play again Thursday in Bright House Field in Clearwater.

Thursday is a split-squad day for the Phillies. They play the Blue Jays in Clearwater and another group will travel to Kissimmee to play the Astros.

The team’s final game in Florida before breaking camp will be March 27, a week from Thursday.
