Game 73: A top-flight pitching matchup

ST. LOUIS -- It won't get much better than the pitching matchup today between Cole Hamels and St. Louis Cardinals RHP Adam Wainwright.

Hamels has a scoreless streak of 23 2/3 innings. At 2-3 with a 2.78 ERA, he's probably the biggest example of why pitching records can be so misleading.

Then again, there is nothing misleading about Wainwright's numbers, (9-3, 2.15 ERA).

Wainwright missed his last start with right elbow tendonitis. His most recent start was June 10.

The Phillies (34-38) are 5-0 on this road trip and have a staff ERA of 1.84. In addition, the Phililes are batting .288 with 19 extra base hits – 13 doubles, a triple and 5 HR. In the five wins they are averaging six runs per game.

The Phillies have also produced on the defensive end. They have not committed an error in eight consecutive games and are second in the National League in fielding percentage (.986).

Jimmy Rollins enters with a 14-game hitting streak. He has had exactly one hit in all 14 games.

Ben Revere, who has not started since Monday due to a bruised left knee, remains out of the lineup.

Here is the Phillies lineup for today's 4:10 p.m. ET game.
