BALTIMORE - Citing club policy, the Phillies declined to comment Monday on a CSNPhilly.com report that the organization is targeting longtime baseball executive Andy MacPhail for a front-office position.

The report indicated it is unclear what role MacPhail would assume if he joined the team.

Pat Gillick became the Phillies' president on a permanent basis in January but has said he doesn't envision himself in the role in two or three years. Gillick, 77, is in charge of baseball operations.

MacPhail, 62, has not worked in a baseball front office since 2011, when his contract expired as the Baltimore Orioles' president of baseball operations. In his four years with the Orioles, he traded for outfielder Adam Jones, slugger Chris Davis and starter Chris Tillman among other key pieces on Baltimore's 2012 and 2014 playoff teams.

MacPhail served as general manager for the Minnesota Twins' world championship teams in 1987 and 1991. He was president and CEO of the Chicago Cubs from September 1994 to October 2006. Both his father, Lee, and grandfather, Larry, are in the Hall of Fame as executives.
