Cleveland Indians infielder Mike Aviles is touched by the show of support he's getting from teammates for his 4-year-old daughter, who is battling leukemia.

Several Indians players and coaches have shaved their heads to support Aviles and Adriana, who returned home after treatment at the Cleveland Clinic.

"It means a lot for me," Aviles said. "It shows I'm kind of liked, or my daughter is, anyway. In all honesty, it's kind of cool when you have your whole team on your side."

Uribe traded

The Los Angeles Dodgers dealt third baseman Juan Uribe to the Atlanta Braves in a six-player trade.

The Dodgers also sent righthanded pitcher Chris Withrow to the Braves for infielder Alberto Callaspo, lefthanders Eric Stults and Ian Thomas, and minor-league righthander Juan Jaime.

The 36-year-old Uribe was batting .247 with one home run and six RBI in 29 games. He posted a career-best .311 average last season, along with nine homers and 54 RBIs in 103 games.

Adams injured

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is out indefinitely with a strained right quadriceps, an injury that may need surgery.

"It's going to be a while," general manager John Mozeliak said. "This is not something that's going to be 15 days.

Battling futility

With a second-inning flyout, Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester set a dubious record at the plate by going 0 for 58 to start his career.
