The Toronto Blue Jays made major-league history by putting three Canadian-born position players in the starting lineup. The Blue Jays started catcher Russell Martin and outfielders Michael Saunders and Dalton Pompey against Tampa Bay.

6 banned for brawl

Four Kansas City Royals and three Chicago White Sox were punished for their roles in a series-opening brawl in Chicago, and six of the players drew suspensions. K.C.'s Yordano Ventura was banned for seven games, Edinson Volquez for five, and Lorenzo Cain and Kelvin Herrera for two each. White Sox pitchers Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija were suspended for five games each. Tyler Flowers was fined an undisclosed amount.
