Phillies re-sign Sizemore

Veteran outfielder Grady Sizemore returns to the Phillies under a 1-year, $2 million contract.

GRADY SIZEMORE will be a member of the 2015 Phillies. In what capacity remains to be seen. The club announced yesterday that it had signed the once-talented but more recently inert outfielder to a $2 million contract for the upcoming season.

Sizemore, a three-time All-Star with the Indians, joined the Phillies last summer after an uninspiring couple of months with the Red Sox. Despite a hot start with the Phillies, he finished the year hitting .233/.299/.354 overall.

The signing underscores the decisions the Phillies have to make with their outfield. Sizemore's salary for 2015 is significantly higher than those given to Jim Thome, Laynce Nix and Ross Gload as lefthanded bench bats. That could call into question the current corner outfielders under club control: Marlon Byrd and Domonic Brown.
