MLB misses point on caps
Major League Baseball denied the New York Mets' request to wear NYPD and FDNY caps during their 11-inning, 10-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field on Sunday (as the team had on Sept. 21, 2001, in the first game in New York after the 9/11 terror attacks).

Major League Baseball denied the New York Mets' request to wear NYPD and FDNY caps during their 11-inning, 10-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field on Sunday (as the team had on Sept. 21, 2001, in the first game in New York after the 9/11 terror attacks).
Some of the Mets wore the caps for BP, and player rep Josh Thole said they thought of ignoring the MLB directive, but decided against it.
Certainly, the 24-minute ceremony before the game was fitting, but the players had a point: it's in the smaller acts that we show powerfully that violence can never win.
Pushing the Papi button
Boston lost, 9-1, to Tampa Bay on Sunday to the Rays just 31/2 games back of the Red Sox in the wild-card race. But never fear, David Ortiz is here. What say you, Papi?
