Touch 'Em All: Judge rejects Bonds' motion to overturn obstruction of justice conviction

In San Francisco, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston refused late Friday to overturn Barry Bonds' obstruction of justice conviction, denying the slugger's motion for a new trial or acquittal on the charge.

In San Francisco, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston refused late Friday to overturn Barry Bonds' obstruction of justice conviction, denying the slugger's motion for a new trial or acquittal on the charge.

In April, jurors failed to reach a verdict on three other counts charging the seven-time NL MVP with making false statements to a grand jury in 2003 .

Bonds is likely to appeal Illston's decision, which could delay any retrial until 2013.

Fateful day

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Washington Nationals' announcement that pitching phenom and Touch 'Em All (formerly High&Inside) fave Stephen Strasburg would need a ligament replacement operation requiring 12 to 18 months of rehabilitation. See you next year, big guy.

Jeter back on the market

We doubt that she's reconsidered the charming offer she received from Vincent Chase last season on Entourage, but actress Minka Kelly has split with New York Yankees captain Deter Jeter, according to her rep. (So, in addition to Hurricane Irene, New York now has to brace for an inundation of singers, starlets, and supermodels seeking to be the Yankees Next Top Girlfriend.)

Stargell's star

Reader Anthony Preziosi of West Deptford e-mails to point out an error (thanks, Ant!): He says the star marking Willie Stargell's upper-deck shot at the Vet was actually on the concourse of Section 601 and not on a seat, as we remembered it.

D'oh! So it was. That jogged the cerebral gears. (Though our estimable colleague Moose Campbell also recalled the star as having once been on a seat, as did a few others. Hey, it's that mist of memory that helps makes baseball, as Moose says, the One True Sport.)
