Don't forget the Ferguson Jenkins trade

I got a lot of email after last week's column about not including the Ferguson Jenkins trade among our worst Phillies deals.

In 1966, Jenkins, utility player John Herrnstein and outfield prospect Adolfo Phillips were traded to the Chicago Cubs for two starting pitchers, Bob Buhl, 37, and Larry Jackson, 35.

Buhl went 6-8 with a 4.77 ERA with the Phillies in 1966. He made three relief appearances the following season, allowing four runs over three innings, and retired.

Jackson would pitch three seasons with the Phillies. His best was in 1966, going 15-13 with a 2.99 ERA. He was 13-15, 3.10 in '67 and 13-17, 2.77 in '68 before retiring.

Jenkins, you might have heard, went on to a Hall of Fame career with a record of 284-226, a 3.34 ERA and 3,192 strikeouts.

So, yes, I blew it by not including that one. And so did the Phillies. *
