The Washington Nationals have signed former Phillies reliever J.C. Romero to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple A Syracuse, according to reports.
Romero, 35, could potentially return to the big leagues, if he pitches well enough, to help a Nationals bullpen that only has one lefthander - Sean Burnett.
Romero was designated for assignment and then released by the Phillies last month. Im 16 1/3 innings, he had a 3.86 earned run average with 12 walks and 10 strikeouts. He was holding lefthanded batters to a .215 average.
