Fans can pose with World Series trophy

This weekend, fans can not only gawk at the first Phillies World Series trophy in 28 years - and only the team's second ever - but they can get their pictures taken next to it.

For free.

"Phanta Claus" - who looks suspiciously like the Phanatic in a Santa suit - will also pose with fans.

The photo ops are part of the annual Holiday Sale at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Citizens Bank Park.

Fans can even park for free. Head for Lot S, off Pattison Avenue, and be sure to mention the holiday sale.

Saturday's hoopla will also feature a 5 p.m. tree-lighting ceremony featuring carolers, ballgirls and Phanta (whose nose looks more like green megaphone than a cherry, but who does share St. Nick's girth and mirth).

The store will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, 9 to 3 on Sunday.

Be warned, however. Late-comers might miss the Tiffany & Co.-crafted trophy, which will be on view 9 to 4:30 Saturday, 9 to 2:30 Sunday.

These are the trophy's only scheduled public appearances between the Thanksgiving parade, and January, when a trophy tour could begin.

Details of that tour are still being worked on.

Phanta will pose for even fewer hours: 11 to 2 on Saturday, 11 to 1 on Sunday.

Of course, the store will have all sorts of Phillies and World Series gear and memorabilia on sale, from tree ornaments to a Phillies monopoly game, which has Cole Hamels and Charlie Manuel instead of Boardwalk and Park Place.

A must asked-for item - a baseball cap with a wraparound ear flap - is finally expected to be available. The first shipment since the World Series should arrive by Friday, said store manager Francis Winkey.

The flap-cap - the same type shortstop Jimmy Rollins wore during the Series homestand - won't be available in regular retail stores till March, according to New Era, the manufacturer.

The Perfect Season, the team's official DVD about the team's road to a title, comes out Friday, and will not only be at the Majestic store, but at retailers throughout the area.

The tough-to-get black World Series locker room hat is also available at Majestic, Winkey said.

If you go: Fans are asked to bring canned goods to donate to local food bank Philabundance. "They're in need of food desperately, and we're trying to help them out," said Phillies spokeswoman Deborah Rinaldi.
