Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A
The IronPigs breezed to a 7-1 victory over the Durham Bulls at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.
The offense posted back-to-back crooked numbers in the third and fourth innings for a 7-0 lead. Third baseman Maikel Franco (2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a strikeout) and designated hitter Russ Canzler (1-for-3 with two RBI and a strikeout) recorded an RBI in both innings.
Shortstop Cesar Hernandez (2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI) and center fielder Clete Thomas (2-for-4 with two runs scored and a strikeout) scored in both innings.
Left-handed starter Greg Smith (8-8, 4.42 ERA) was able to even his record with the win. Smith allowed one run on five hits while striking out four over seven innings. The lone run was the result of a home run.
The IronPigs (54-63) will go for a series win on Tuesday. Righty Jeff Manship (0-0, 6.23 ERA) is scheduled to start in the finale.
Reading Fightin Phils – Double A
The Fightin Phils beat the Harrisburg Senators, 5-1, at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pa.
Shortstop KC Serna hit a two-run single in the first inning to give the Fightin Phils an early lead.
Center fielder Zach Collier (2-for-4) homered for the third consecutive game, a solo shot in the fourth. Collier has hit four homers in the last three games.
Left-handed starter Adam Loewen (2-4, 3.45 ERA) delivered seven strong innings for the win. He held the Senators to a run on five hits, three walks and a hit batsman.
The Fightin Phils (48-67) hand the ball to southpaw Hoby Milner (6-5, 4.57 ERA) as the series continues Tuesday.
Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced
The Threshers were pounded by the St. Lucie Mets, 10-4, at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.
Right-handed starter Nic Hanson (0-1, 9.00 ERA) struggled early and suffered the loss. Hanson gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks in four-plus innings.
Third baseman Harold Martinez had a strong day at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a strikeout).
Center fielder Roman Quinn (2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored) and shortstop J.P. Crawford (2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI) also had multi-hit games.
The Threshers (19-25 in second half, 36-76 overall) remain home for a four-game series with the Daytona Cubs. Righty Miguel Nunez (5-7, 5.09 ERA) will toe the rubber in the opener on Tuesday.
Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A
The BlueClaws edged the Asheville Tourists, 6-5, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.
Right-handed starter Tyler Viza got knocked around, but ended up not factoring in the decision. Viza surrendered four runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
First baseman Zach Green was a tough out all game to provide a spark to the offense.
Tied at five apiece in the eighth, Green singled and scored the game-winning run on catcher Jose Mayorga's RBI single.
Green finished the game 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Righty Aaron Baker (1-1, 3.92 ERA) picked up the win as he recorded three scoreless innings. The only hitter reach base was plunked.
The teams will play the rubber match of the series on Tuesday. The BlueClaws (18-26 in second half, 45-68 overall) will turn to lefty Yoel Mecias (2-0, 1.20 ERA) in the finale.
Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A-Short Season
The Crosscutters were doubled up by the Aberdeen IronBirds, 6-3, at Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa.
Left-handed starter Brandon Leibrandt (1-1, 1.88 ERA) reached double digits in strikeouts with 10, but ended up with the loss. He was charged with four runs on five hits and a walk over six innings.
Designated hitter Jiandido Tromp hit his 12th homer to extend his team lead in the category. This time, it was a solo shot in the sixth.
Center fielder Aaron Brown (2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI) had the only multi-hit game for the Crosscutters. The offense only managed five hits.
The Crosscutters (24-27) have an off day on Tuesday.
