Sports in Brief: Truck win gives Logano victories in 3 top NASCAR series

The Daytona 500 champion won for the first time in the series to become the 26th driver to win in all three of NASCAR's top series. The pole-sitter also will start on the pole in Sunday's Sprint Cup race.

IndyCar champion Will Power will start the first race of his reign from the pole after twice breaking the track record in Saturday qualifying on the temporary street circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla. His lap at 1 minute, 0.6509 seconds in the second qualifying group stands as the track record, breaking the 1:00.928 mark set by Sebastien Bourdais in 2003.

GOLF Jimmy Walker opened a 4-stroke lead over fellow Texan Jordan Spieth, shooting a 3-under-par 69 in his hometown Texas Open at the TPC San Antonio.

Walker had a 9-under 207 total. Spieth, who is from Dallas, shot a 71.

Mirim Lee shot a 6-under 66 for the Kia Classic lead at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, Calif., while top-ranked Lydia Ko increased her LPGA Tour under-par streak to 27 rounds but fell 4 shots behind.

In the Champions Tour, Kevin Sutherland birdied three of the final six holes for a 5-under 67 and the second-round lead in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic at Fallen Oak in Saucier, Miss.

TENNIS Showing no lingering effects from a recent knee injury, seven-time Key Biscayne champion Serena Williams won her opening match of the Miami Open, beating Monica Niculescu of Romania, 6-3, 6-1.

Serena and Venus Williams said they plan to play for the U.S. Fed Cup team next month against Italy.

WINTER SPORTS Gracie Gold and Ashley Wagner narrowly missed out on medals in the women's event at the world figure-skating championships in Shanghai, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, while Jason Brown finished fourth in the men's event.

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva of Russia won the women's gold. Javier Fernandez of Spain took the men's gold.

Jocelyne Lamoureux, Kacey Bellamy, and Kendall Coyne scored power-play goals as the United States opened the women's world hockey championships in Malmo, Sweden, with a 4-2 victory over Canada.

Mikaela Shiffrin won the slalom in the U.S. Alpine championships in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.
