South Jersey basketball: Closer look at Group 4-2 sectional finals

Here’s a look at the South Jersey boys’ basketball sectional finals.

South Jersey Group 4

Atlantic City (25-4) at Shawnee (25-4), Monday at 6 p.m.

Third-seeded Atlantic City’s road to the final: Beat Clearview, 76-52; Millville, 54-45; and Toms River North, 59-45.

Atlantic City player to watch: Senior swingman Ray Bethea has scored 34, 24 and 27 point in the Vikings’ three playoff games.

Top-seeded Shawnee’s road to the final:  Beat Southern, 68-38; Kingsway, 76-62, and Eastern, 59-54.

Shawnee player to watch: Senior forward Dylan Deveney leads the team in three-point baskets with 68.

Breakdown: These two teams have been steaming toward this showdown all season. The Renegades rate the slightest of edges based on home court.

Pick: Shawnee, 63-61.

South Jersey Group 2

Lower Cape May (21-6) vs. Haddonfield (26-3) at Cherry Hill East, Monday at 7 p.m.

Fifth-seeded Lower Cape May’s road to the final: Beat Pennsauken Tech, 61-34; Medford Tech, 71-61; and Barnegat, 59-44.

Lower Cape May player to watch: Senior guard Pat Holden is a 2,000-point scorer, a top three-point threat and deadly accurate free-throw shooter.

Second-seeded Haddonfield’s road to the final: Beat Cape May Tech, 62-44; Haddon Heights, 52-45; and Camden, 54-53 (OT).

Haddonfield player to watch: Junior forward Dan Fleming is a top three-point threat and has scored 19 points in each of the last two games.

Breakdown: Haddonfield is trying to match the feat of its football team, which won a sectional title without a home field due to a construction project at the school. The basketball team has played all “away” games this season as work has progressed on its historic gymnasium.

Pick: Haddonfield, 58-50.
