Sydney Zandi - one of the area's premier girls' soccer players - was named on Thursday to the U.S. under-17 national team.

The junior from West Chester Henderson will compete for Team USA as it tries to qualify for the Under-17 World Cup, which will be held next fall in Jordan.

The team plays three qualifying games in five days in Grenada, beginning with March 4's match against Jamaica.

Zandi scored 13 goals last season and racked up eight assists in 14 games. She missed some of Henderson's games due to tryouts for the U.S. squad. Zandi helped Henderson win its first Ches-Mont National division title since 1995. The Warriors fell a win shy of reaching the PIAA playoffs.

Zandi, who has orally committed to the University of Virginia, was the Gatorade state player of the year as a sophomore.
