Penn Charter snaps Inter-Ac skid

Inter-Ac play has not been kind to the Penn Charter football team over the last two years. After the losing the final four games in league play two seasons ago and all five conference games in 2014, the Quakers lost a three-overtime nail-biter to rival Haverford School in their first Inter-Ac contest this season.

After the losing the final four games in league play two seasons ago and all five conference games in 2014, the Quakers lost a three-overtime nail-biter to rival Haverford School in their first Inter-Ac contest this season.

The Quakers put all that behind them Saturday, snapping a 10-game Inter-Ac losing steak with a 28-14 win over visiting Springside Chestnut Hill.

Mike Hnatkowsky and Jake McCain led the way for Penn Charter, each rushing for a pair of touchdowns. McCain rushed for 137 yards on 18 carries. Hnatkowsky netted 88 all-purpose yards.

Zahmir Murray and Denarii Beard each recorded an interception.

In another Inter-Ac game, Kyle McCloskey threw for three touchdowns, and host Germantown Academy outlasted Episcopal Academy, 27-24. Vince Capone launched two field goals, including a career-high 42-yarder.

Catholic League AAAA. Backup quarterback Joe Longo rallied No. 4 St. Joseph's Prep from a six-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to a 35-13 win over No. 23 Father Judge at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Long threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Terrence Green and rushed for a touchdown in a 28-point fourth quarter. Longo replaced Kevin Shaw, who was injured late in the first half. He completed 6 of 8 passes for 105 yards.

Syaire Madden rushed for three touchdowns and 89 yards in No. 7 La Salle's 49-14 win over Roman Catholic at South Philly Super Site. Chris Ferguson completed 7 of 13 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. Troy Holland caught four passes for 92 yards. Isaiah Jones, Nick Rinella, and Kevin Lajeunesse each rushed for a TD.

Catholic League AA. Joshua Evans 20-yard touchdown pass to Jameer Bryson got West Catholic on the board in its 23-6 win over Conwell-Egan at Truman.

Dontae Mason completed 10 passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bishop McDevitt in a 41-20 win over Neumann-Goretti at South Philly Super Site.

Del-Val League. Chris Thomas had 26 carries for 124 yards and two TDs in Interboro's 40-18 victory at Chester. Matt O'Chuida rushed for 56 yards on 10 carries. Chris Hummel netted 82 rushing yards.

Public League Class AAA. Amin Black returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and Imhotep Charter, The Inquirer's top-ranked team in Southeastern Pennsylvania, beat High School of the Future, 40-0, at West Philadelphia. The game was stopped in the first quarter per mutual agreement.
