Constitution wins Public 'A' title

Constitution won't be sharing its division basketball championship with anyone this time around. The Generals made 28 free throws Friday night and defeated visiting Philadelphia Electrical, 53-43, to clinch the Public League A regular-season title outright.

The Generals made 28 free throws Friday night and defeated visiting Philadelphia Electrical, 53-43, to clinch the Public League A regular-season title outright.

Constitution led by 15-9 at halftime, but pulled away in the third quarter thanks to eight points from Haneef Vaughn and seven points from Chad Andrews-Fulton.

The Generals, who went on to win the Class AA state championship, were division co-champions last year with Imhotep.

Constitution is ranked No. 5 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer.

BICENTENNIAL CONSTITUTION

Jenkintown 49, Faith Christian 40: Colin Mulvaney went 14 for 14 from the free throw line and converted a three-point play with less than two minutes remaining to break open a one-point game for the hosts.

BICENTENNIAL INDEPENDENCE

Holy Ghost Prep 66, New Hope-Solebury 55: Liam Brennan made all 11 of his free throw attempts, including eight in the fourth quarter, to lead the visitors.

CATHOLIC

Archbishop Wood 68, Cardinal O'Hara 35: Collin Gillespie and Tom Funk both had five assists for the visitors.

Father Judge 70, West Catholic 54: Justin Fleming scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to help the visitors pull away.

La Salle 63, Bonner-Prendergast 47: Dave Krmpotich grabbed seven rebounds and Najee Walls dished out six assists to propel the host No. 1 Explorers.

Roman Catholic 67, Lansdale Catholic 44: Nazeer Bostick scored a game-high 18 points for the visiting, No.2 Cahillites.

St. Joseph's Prep 37, Archbishop Ryan 32: Chris Clover and Pete Gayhardt each had eight rebounds for the host No. 10 Hawks.

Conestoga 59, Lower Merion 44: Martin Dorsey had 15 rebounds for the hosts.

Marple Newtown 75, Radnor 66: Nick Giordano scored 45 points, including the 1,000th of his career on a free throw in the fourth quarter, to lead the visitors.

FRIENDS SCHOOLS

Germantown Friends 55, Academy of New Church 54: Ray Leon hit two free throws with four seconds remaining to complete the comeback for host GFS,which defeated New Church for the first time in 12 years.

INTER-AC

Episcopal Academy 61, Malvern Prep 51: Nick Alikakos grabbed 10 rebounds for the visitors.

Germantown Academy 63, Penn Charter 34: Sam Lindgren and Tim Guers each scored 13 for the visitors, who broke it open with a 14-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter.

SUBURBAN ONE CONTINENTAL

North Penn 47, Quakertown 43: Joe Richards scored the final four points, including the go-ahead bucket with 43 seconds remaining, for the visitors.

NONLEAGUE

Academy Park 77 Phoenixville 60 (OT): Jawan Collins (40 points) scored 16 in the fourth quarter, including the tying layup after a steal with 30 seconds remaining.

Lower Moreland 78, Perkiomen School 47: Nick Smolda went 7 for 7 from the field, including 6 for 6 from three-point range, for the hosts. Danny Duffey 10 assists.

Penn Wood 60, West Philadelphia 51: Malik Jackson scored 20 of his career-high 45 points in the first to get things started for the home team. Jackson went 22 for 25 from the line.

PUBLIC LEAGUE SEMIFINALS

Northeast 39, Mariana Bracetti 37: Sophomore Abdelrahman Ali (106 pounds) clinched the match for the hosts with a 32-second pin in the final match.

Central 54, Washington 24: Olajide Soyinka clinched the match with a 6-4 overtime decision at 195.
