Pa. Boys: Porter lifts Abington over Pennsbury

He didn't make it look pretty, but Jake Porter got the job done Friday night. Porter banked home a go-ahead three from the left elbow with 32.9 seconds left and Abington hung on for a 58-57 win over visiting Pennsbury in a Suburban One National matchup.

After Porter's shot gave Abington a one-point lead, the Ghosts' defense held on for the win. Bernard James came up with a steal. Abington missed a pair of free throws, but Amir Hinton sealed the game with another steal with 3.5 seconds left.

Neshaminy 49, Bensalem 46: Shammona Thomas nailed two free throws with two seconds left to help Neshaminy close out the road win.

Council Rock North 56, William Tennent 37: Riley Thompson led the drive as Council Rock North pulled away in the second and third quarter. Thompson scored all 16 of his points in the middle quarters and Council Rock North outscored William Tennent, 36-10.

Central Bucks South 62, North Penn 53: Chris Hones had 15 hauled in 15 rebounds and scored 16 points in a home win.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 55, Upper Moreland 35: Xzavier Malone's put-back dunk highlighted Plymouth Whitemarsh's 12-2 run to start the second half in a home win. Malone finished with 16 points.

Upper Dublin 45, Norristown 44: Simeon Fryor made a 10-foot jumper with 28 seconds left to lift visiting Upper Dublin.

GONZAGA DC CLASSIC

Roman Catholic 54, Roosevelt 41: Gemil Holbrook posted 18 points and 14 rebounds in the win at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C.

HOOP GROUP READING TIP-OFF SHOWCASE

Chester 69, Berks Catholic 62: Marquis Collins knocked down five threes and finished with 17 points in the win at Reading.

CENTRAL LEAGUE

Springfield (Delco) 57, Radnor 37: Ryan McCloskey (14 points) and Quideer Wimes (12 points) led visiting Springfield in scoring, but also led the team's defensive effort.

Harriton 53, Strath Haven 50: Jordan Wright made a game-winning three with four seconds left and finished with 30 points for visiting Harriton.

Hill School 60, Academy of the New Church 46: James Fives scored a game-high 24 points and Bryce Allen had four assists and four steals as Hill School held Academy of the New Church to 14 points in the second half at Haverford School.

Friends' Central 68, Friends Select 29: Steven Fowell led 10 Friends' Central scorers with 13 points in a home win.

Peddie School 55, Penn Charter 47: C.J. Davis led host Peddie School with 19 points.

Phelps 70, Lawrenceville 53: Mike Watkins had six blocks, eight rebounds, and scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half.

Strawberry Mansion 73, Collegium Charter 72: Christopher Russell went the length of the court in six seconds to lay in the game-winning bucket with 1.6 seconds left.

Malvern Prep 67, St. Augustine (Australia) 65: Jack Doherty had 21 points and Malvern Prep held on for the home win.

Washington 52, Archbishop Ryan 51: Charles Brown led host Washington with 27 points.

Northeast 81, Franklin Learning Center 58: Deshan Brown hit four of his team's nine three-pointers and finished with 25 points to help visiting Vikings coach Ira Stern post his 200th career victory.

Del-Val Charter 48, Southern 39: Bysil Northern took an elbow to the face in the second half, but he still scored 10 of his 14 points after halftime in Del-Val Charter's home win.

Glen Mills 39, Central 33: Anthony Walsh dominated down low. The 6-foot-7 junior center scored 12 points, grabbed 23 rebounds, and had seven blocks for host Glen Mills.

Simon Gratz 61, Mastery North 46: Tahir Warton had 22 points and 11 boards in Gratz's home win.
