VJM, Dock earn district titles

The Jems beat Gwynedd Mercy and the Pioneers topped Delco Christian.

Villa Joseph Marie and Christopher Dock won District 1 girls' soccer titles by identical scores on Wednesday afternoon.

Bridget Galen scored two goals as Villa Joseph Marie beat Gwynedd Mercy, 5-0, for the Class AA title at Council Rock North.

Christopher Dock captured its fourth straight Class A title, 5-0, over Delco Christian at William Tennent. Bailey Kratz scored twice and Emily Gordon made seven saves for the Pioneers Mattasyn Shisler scored in the title game for the fourth year in a row.

District 1 Class AAA Field Hockey Semifinals

Corinne Kenney scored a late goal to lift Central Bucks South past Council Rock Rock North, 1-0, at North Penn.

District 1 Class AAA Field Hockey Playbacks

Stroke was the word for Bailey Quinn and Phoenixville in a 2-1 playback victory at Perkiomen Valley.

Quinn tied it on a stroke with 15 minutes, 44 seconds remaining and then stroked in the winner with 4:29 to go.

Kim Rutherford (nine saves) stopped a stroke in the upper left corner with two minutes left to secure the Phantoms' trip to states.

Conestoga 2, Downingtown West 1- Casey Allen won it for the Pioneers with 2:49 left in overtime.

Public League Volleyball Final

Andia Anderson (11 service points, 4 kills) and Cindy Ung (11 service points, seven kills, 27 digs) helped Palumbo to a 18-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 win over Central at Community College of Philadelphia.

Barrack Hebrew's Sarah Federman and Zoe Klein outlasted Girard College's Michelle Peach and Takira Smith, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, at first doubles to highlight a 5-0 win for the host Cougars.

Sean Ryan, a 1996 Bishop McDevitt graduate, is returning to Wyncote as the Lancers' new head basketball coach.

Ryan, who replaces Jack Rutter, coached Friends Select from 2005-13.
