St. Joseph's Prep wins state golf title

It wasn't even the best moment of St. Joseph Prep's afternoon.

That came later, when the final results were announced, and the Hawks edged Scranton Prep, 322-325, to take home the state title.

Mitchell shot a team-low 79. Paul Mauer, Nick Calabrese, Alex Butler, and Mike Burns all shot 81.

Jack Melville shot 79 for fourth-place Upper Dublin, which was making its first appearance in states.

In Class AA, Roland Massimino led all golfers with 72 and his New Hope-Solebury team won the title.

Villa Maria won the AA girls' title behind Annie Ciacchini's low round of 82.

Inter-Ac Boys' Championship. Penn Charter's Brian Isztwan beat Otis Baker of Haverford School on the first sudden-death playoff to capture the title. Isztwan and Baker both shot 4-over-par 76 on the Militia Hill Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill.

Girls' Soccer

Megan Stapf had a goal and two assists as top-seeded Franklin Towne Charter secured a 4-0 victory at No. 4 Northeast in a Public League semifinal.

Also at Northeast, No. 3 Central beat No. 2 Philadelphia Academy Charter, 5-1, with three goals from Djavon Dupree and two assists from Romie Azor.

Field Hockey

Erin Matson had a goal and an assist as top-seeded Unionville dispatched visiting No. 16 Neshaminy, 2-0, in the second round of the District 1 Class AAA field hockey tournament.

Elsewhere in Class AAA:

Kelsey Giese and Laura Shelton split the scoring evenly for No. 3 Perkiomen Valley in its 4-0 home win over No. 14 Ridley.

Nikki Freeman had two goals and Romea Riccardo had two assists as No. 4 Downingtown West turned away visiting No. 13 Central Bucks West, 3-0.

Girls' Tennis

Methacton's Mihaela Codreanu topped Downingtown West's Payton Bradley, 6-4, 6-0, to claim the District 1 singles championship at Legacy Tennis Center in East Falls.

Molly Bair and Amirah Salim-Bey of Abington beat Garnet Valley's Marina Zhang and Emma Blake, 6-1, 6-2, to win the doubles title.

Volleyball

Alexus Smith registered seven kills as No. 7 Kensington hit the road and stunned No. 2 Northeast, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11, in a Public League AAA quarterfinal.
