Different styles in Ches-Mont showdown

It's West Chester Henderson's midline-veer scheme against Coatesville's spread attack. Different offensive styles will be featured when the Warriors and host Red Raiders battle in a Ches-Mont League National Conference game at 7 p.m. Friday.

It's West Chester Henderson's midline-veer scheme against Coatesville's spread attack.

Different offensive styles will be featured when the Warriors and host Red Raiders battle in a Ches-Mont League National Conference game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Henderson, with its run-oriented approach, is 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league action. Steve Mitten's squad has won five straight since a 28-27 loss to cross-conference rival West Chester Rustin.

Behind junior quarterback Jordan Young, who has thrown for 1,485 yards and 10 touchdowns, Coatesville is 7-0 and 2-0. Matt Ortega's group averages 35 points.

Here is a closer look at Friday's matchup.

Rankings. Henderson is ranked No. 9 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer. Coatesville is No. 6.

Recent history. The Red Raiders have won five of the last six meetings, including last year's 21-10 decision. The Warriors prevailed, 21-13, in 2011.

Close behind. Henderson and Coatesville are trailed in the National Conference standings by Downingtown East (5-2, 2-1) and Downingtown West (5-2, 2-1).

Spark plugs. The go-to rushers for Henderson are fullback Tre Green, who has carried 130 times for 967 yards and 13 touchdowns, and halfback Noah Richard.

Accurate. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Young, one of the area's most improved quarterbacks, has completed 114 of 174 passes (65.5 percent).

Up front. Henderson's offensive line is anchored by guard and Villanova recruit Bryan White (6-2, 280) and tackle James McDonald (6-4, 280).

No. 1 target. Coatesville wideout James Clark has 30 catches for 443 yards and three TDs. Young's other targets include Jay Stocker and Keenan Coleman.

In charge. Matt Dinacci, a 6-2, 200-pound junior quarterback, is the Warriors' field general. Richard, who doubles at cornerback, also can take snaps from center.

Mainstays. The Red Raiders defense is led by end Amir Ealey, linebacker Stephen Pawling, safety Ricky Southcott, and cornerback Ahkema Evans.

Stalwarts. White, a tackle, is supported in Henderson's 4-3 defense by end Jack Dingfelder, linebackers Cole Bement and Kyle Klaus, and safety Brian Armstrong.

Pick. Spurred by Young and a solid run-stuffing effort, Coatesville triumphs, 27-14.
