N-G's Harper commits to Campbell U.

Neuman-Goretti point guard Troy Harper has committed to play basketball at Campbell University.

WITH A SIMPLE text message, Neumann-Goretti's Troy Harper let Campbell University head coach Kevin McGeehan know of his commitment to the Fighting Camels.

"He was excited," Harper said over the phone. "I'm excited. Looking forward to getting down there and playing."

The 6-1, 170-pound senior point guard said he liked the up-tempo pace Campbell (Buies Creek, N.C.) utilizes in the Big South Conference. The Camels finished 13-20 overall last season and 7-9 in the conference.

Harper was a member of the Saints' 2012 PIAA Class AAA state championship team, and said he wants to improve his jump shot before entering college.

Until then, Harper said he has some more winning to do. Though he did not start last season, Harper figures to play a key role this season on a talented squad that has high expectations.

"Win the Catholic League, the city championship and the state title," Harper said. "And finish top 10 in the country."
