Mount's Louin commits to Villanova

Explosive Mount St. Joseph guard Alex Louin committed to the Villanova women's basketball team on Wednesday morning, and after that, one of the first texts she received was from Episcopal Academy's Megan Quinn.

The prospect of playing with other local players such as Quinn, who will attend Villanova in the fall, will make the transition to college basketball "easy and fun," Louin said.

Louin, who as a junior this past season led the Magic to the District 1 Class AAAA final and the state tournament, had narrowed her search to Villanova and Boston College before picking the Wildcats, largely to be closer to home.

She said she is looking forward to having her family and friends able to continue to watch her play. It didn't hurt that her mother, Regina, is a Villanova graduate.

"I've always been a fan," Louin said of Villanova basketball. "I really like the school."

Arguably the top local player in the Class of 2014, the 5-foot-11 Louin has athleticism that gives her an advantage on both ends of the floor.

Louin is looking forward to returning to the Pavilion, where the district championships are traditionally held, saying it would make the experience more "special."

Last week, teammate Carly Monzo, a 5-10 forward who also will be a senior, committed to play for Loyola (Md).
