Other local products set to make college impact

HERE ARE 12 more Public/Catholic/Inter-Ac products projected to make strong impacts this season for Division I-A and I-AA football programs not covered on a weekly basis by the Daily News:

COREY BROWN

WR, Ohio State, Junior

6-0, 186, O'Hara

Known as "Philly" to teammates because OSU's roster includes another Corey Brown (from suburban Pittsburgh). Made nine starts and missed four games with ankle woes. Leads the current Buckeyes with 22 career snags for 310 yards and two TDs. Had a 54-yard TD catch vs. Michigan.

IBRAHEIM CAMPBELL

DB, Northwestern, Soph

5-11, 205, Chestnut Hill

Named to several postseason freshman all-star lists after racking a team-leading 100 tackles. His 13-stop outing vs. Army included five solos; also posted 13 vs. Nebraska. Dumped nine guys vs. Michigan while adding two interceptions. Capped his season with 11 tackles in bowl game vs. Texas A&M. Also an academic conference honoree. Brother, Rashad, finished strong career last fall for Cornell.

SHARRIF FLOYD

DE, Florida, Junior

6-3, 303, Washington

Already boasts two seasons of high productivity (and did not redshirt) thanks to his athleticism and junkyard dog mentality. His 46-tackle effort in 2011 included 6.5 for losses. Obvious highlight? Eleven stops vs. No. 1 LSU. One of 50 players being eyed for the Walter Camp Award (nation's top player).

JAMEL HAGGINS

TE, Lehigh, Senior

6-3, 260, Franklin

"Redz" exploded onto the scene after exhibiting 2 years of extreme patience (one catch, zero yards). Earned first-team All-Patriot laurels for turning 27 receptions into 322 yards and two TDs. First big moment was a five-snag, 66-yard outing vs. Colgate. Enjoyed an almost identical performance (5-69, TD) vs. Towson in a playoff victory.

JOHN HOWELL

SB, Navy, Senior

5-8, 188, Lansdale Catholic

Posted amazing averages for rushing (9.7, 35-340) and receiving (24.0, 4-96) out of his slotback spot. The rushing tone was set in his first start: 4-32 vs. No. 10 South Carolina. Then tallied TDs that covered 50 and 57 yards vs. Western Kentucky. Navy ranked fourth nationally in rushing average (312.25).

JACK LOWNEY

G, Old Dominion, Junior

6-4, 285, Carroll

Eleven of his 13 appearances were starts and he helped ODU to lead the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring average (36.69) and total offense (439.08). The tone for '11 was set in '10, when he started the final five games.

RAYMOND MAPLES

RB, Army, Junior

6-1, 218, West Catholic

"Syrup" became just the third soph in Army history to rack up 1,000 rushing yards in one seas on (1,006). Even better, his yards per carry average (7.3) was the best in school history for someone with at least 100 carries. Fordham was victimized for his season-best 159 yards. Candidate for Doak Walker Award (best RB).

JOE MIGLIARESE

TE, Rhode Island, Senior

6-4, 250, La Salle

Coming off two solid seasons. His junior campaign featured 19 snags for 202 yards and three TDs after 16-176-1 as soph. Nine of his '11 catches produced TDs or first downs. His best outing (7-65) came against Brown. His blocking helped the rushing game average 152 yards.

NICK MOODY

LB, Florida State, Senior

6-2, 237, Roman

His '11 season was limited to nine games by injuries and now, having added roughly 15 pounds, he is moving from DB to LB. Racked up four games with four stops apiece. Fifteen of his 23 total tackles were solos. On preseason watch list for Butkus Award (LBs).

RYAN NASSIB

QB, Syracuse, Grad Student

6-3, 228, Malvern

Lit it up throughout '11, establishing one-season school records for completions (259) and yards (2,685) and tying the standard for TDs (22). His best outing, arguably, came vs. Rhode Island: 29-for-37 for 318 yards and three TDs. Already ranks in Top 5 in every meaningful career category for Orange. Yardage total is 5,441.

TOM RYAN

WR,Towson, Senior

6-3, 210, Judge

Already boasts 83 career receptions for 995 yards and five TDs. Led the '11 squad with 39-560-3. Enjoyed two major highlights. Produced a come-from-behind win over Old Dominion with a 67-yard TD catch 67 seconds before the final gun. Oh, it came on fourth-and-29. In the win vs. Rhode Island that yielded the CAA title, he made two TD catches in the second half.

EARL WATFORD

G, James Madison, Senior

6-4, 290, Gratz

Name can be found on a preseason All-American list after last year earning first-team All-CAA honors. His 32 career appearances have included 26 starts (last 24 in row). In '11, the Dukes posted 222.5 rushing yards per game and 4.7 per carry. Also starred on the DL while at Gratz.
