Tues. Pa. boys' roundup: Ford sparks Malvern Prep victory

Ford's two-out, two-run home run in the sixth inning put the Friars ahead 4-2. He yielded one run over the next two innings to finish his complete game with three strikeouts and zero walks. Joe Ravert chipped in with two RBIs on a pair of hits and Matt Greskoff scored once and drove in a run.

Also in the Inter-Ac, Steve Fitzgerald provided all the offense Haverford School needed to edge visiting Chestnut Hill, 2-0. The Fords recorded four hits, one of which was a two-run homer in the third inning by Fitzgerald.

Righthander Kenny Koplove fanned 10 and walked four to lead Penn Charter past host Germantown Academy, 8-3. Steven Cohen went 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Catholic. Skyler Mornhinweg drove in three runs on two hits and St. Joseph's Prep turned away host Roman Catholic, 11-9. Kyle Gillen went 3 for 4 and scored three times.

Sophomore second baseman Bob Romano slammed a pair of homers to lift host Archbishop Ryan over Father Judge, 16-0.

Ches-Mont. Sophomore righty Dave Rietman posted the win and knocked in an RBI as West Chester Henderson rolled over visiting Avon Grove, 7-1. Rietman went 2 for 3 and struck out four in five innings. Senior right fielder P.J. Costello went 2 for 3, with an RBI and run scored.

Friends Schools. Daniel Mauri pitched seven innings, fanned six and walked four to lead Friends Select at Germantown Friends, 6-4. He also added a pair of hits.

George Long allowed just one base runner in five innings and struck out 10 to lift George School over visiting Westtown, 3-1.

Sean Hyland picked up the win on the mound and went 2 for 3 from the plate as Abington Friends rolled at Academy of the New Church, 14-7. He had 4 RBIs, including a two-run double in the sixth.

Public. Brandon McDowell slammed a two-run homer in the third and drove in one more in the seventh as Boys' Latin topped host Overbrook, 7-4.

Centerfielder Johnathon Gonzalez went 4 for 5 with a pair of runs scored to lift Olney at Furness, 11-6.

Bartram opened the game with five straight singles and an early three-run lead en route to topping host Lamberton, 6-3. Rob Davis posted the win with seven strikeouts. Leon Bynum struck out 15 and walked three for Lamberton.

Manny Young went 3 for 5 and scored twice as Ben Franklin raced past Mastbaum, 8-2. Khalil Coles posted the win with seven strikeouts and also had two hits at the plate.

Tri-County. Jesus Colon struck out 15 and allowed no earned runs to help Phelps ease past visiting Perkiomen School, 6-1. Mike Costello added 2 RBIs on three hits. It's the first time that Phelps has ever beaten the Indians.

Lacrosse

Matt Rambo found the net five times and assisted on a pair of goals as LaSalle rolled over visiting St. Joseph's Prep, 11-4, in a Catholic League game. Brian McNamara and Adam Stefanowicz each scored twice for the Explorers.

The game was a rematch of St. Joe's league championship win last season.

Inter-Ac. Tyler Odell scored four goals and Jon Garino won 12 of his 18 faceoffs to lead host Episcopal Academy over Penn Charter, 9-5. The Churchmen are ranked No. 3 in the state by PhillyLacrosse.com's media rankings. Henry Coote and Tyler Morrell combined for nine saves.

Suburban One. Nick Swift scored five goals and assisted on two others to lead Plymouth Whitemarsh in an easy 17-5 win over visiting Norristown. Jake Brown added three goals and Brandon White had a pair of assists.

Bicentennial. T.J. Romano recorded two assists and Greg price turned away 15 shots as Holy Ghost Prep edged visiting New Hope Solebury, 8-6. Constantine Konugres, Jeremy Omrod and Bennett Zaba scored twice each for the Firebirds.

Public. Matt Ragan scored three times and Eric O'Brien had four assists to lead Northeast over Washington, 8-3, at Simon Gratz.
