Tues. Pa. boys' roundup: Norristown upends Wissahickon

Behind a balanced scoring effort, and a bit of an advantage on the low post, host Norristown upset Suburban One American Conference basketball foe Wissahickon, 58-56, in double overtime on Wednesday night.

Bernard Gordon knocked down seven of his 10 foul shots over both overtime as the Eagles handed Wissahickon its first defeat since a season-opening loss on Dec. 9. The Trojans entered the game ranked No. 5 in Southeastern Pa. by The Inquirer.

Marquis Bryant and Jahbri Hargrove manned the glass for Norristown, as Bryant finished with eight boards and Hargrove grabbed seven. Norristown featured nine scorers, none with more than 10 points.

Wissahickon has now lost three of it's last four games to Norristown, with their lone win being a 21-point rout earlier this season.

Also in the Suburban One, Jeff Garner knocked down four threes in the first quarter and Pennridge built up a large lead before holding on to top North Penn, 70-66. The Rams led 21-6 after the opening quarter.

Jamar Brown knocked down each of his four free throws in overtime as Pennsbury topped Neshaminy, 54-51. The Redskins' Bobby Marterella sent the game into overtime with three foul shots with 4 seconds left.

Darrell Harrison scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Upper Dublin rocked visiting Upper Merion, 72-43.

Christian Crane scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter as Council Rock South topped visiting William Tennent, 49-45.

Anthony McKie battled the flu to pour in 30 points and knock down five threes as Plymouth-Whitemarsh topped Upper Moreland, 79-55.

Friends Schools. Junior guard Montana Mayfield forced overtime on a three-pointer with 10 seconds left as host Abington Friends topped George School, 61-59. He scored four of his game-high 31 points in the extra period. Mayfield finished with five assists. Trevor Stone led George School with 23 points.

Amile Jefferson scored seven points in both the first and third quarters as Friends' Central rolled over visiting Moorestown Friends, 52-23.

Public. Senior guard Maurice Watson inched closer to 2,000 career points as Boys' Latin downed host Southern, 52-42. The senior guard finished with 22 points, which brings his total to 1,994.

Quahdire Gordon hit a field goal with eight seconds left as University City topped Paul Robeson, 52-49. Diante Lunsford led the Jaguars with 18 points.

Junior guard Rysheed Jordan recorded a triple double as Vaux downed visiting Math, Civics & Sciences, 68-53. Jordan finished with 11 points, 10 steals and 10 assists. Senior guard James Cole chipped in with five threes.

Henry Johnson came off the bench in the fourth quarter to knock off a pair of threes as Parkway West knocked off host Sankofa Freedom, 68-66.

Haneef Hardy knocked down the front end of his one-and-one with one second left as Swenson topped visiting Randolph, 62-61. Hardy scored eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

D.J. Alexander scored six of his team-high 19 points in the third quarter to help Lamberton over visiting Franklin Towne Charter, 65-52.

Jamie Betancourt sank a tying layup with 25 seconds left in the fourth and Kensington went on to down Carroll, 68-63, in overtime. The Tigers shot four for five from the foul line in OT.

Savon Goodman scored 18 of his game-high 27 points in the first half as Constitution turned away visiting Communications Tech, 61-54.

Nijay Kelly scored six points in overtime and Fels inched past visiting Freire Charter, 61-58. Carlton Wright tied the game for the visitors with a three-pointer with 11 seconds left in regulation.

Abdoulay Gakou knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game in regulation and Esperanza rallied to win in overtime, 71-68, against visiting Central.

Edward Davis grabbed nine rebounds and Samson Akano knocked down four threes as Roxborough downed visiting Bodine, 60-56.

Junior Tarrieck Williams had a season-high 20 points and Bo Murray iced the game with two free throws as Bartram knocked off visiting Frankford, 75-72.

Senior guard Donte Watkins nailed five three-pointers and senior forward Desmond Sams grabbed eight rebounds as West Philadelphia turned away Dobbins, 62-50.

Sean Lloyd's 12 rebounds, and Troy Steed's 10 helped host Franklin Learning Center knock off FitzSimons, 81-39.
