Thurs. Pa. boys roundup: West Philly edges Freire

Desmond Sams hit two foul shots and a layup in the final 15 seconds to secure West Philadelphia's 46-42 win over visiting Freire Charter in Public League basketball action on Thursday.

The Speedboys trailed by four points after three quarters, but Sams had nine points in the final period to finish with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Donte Watkins led the winners with 19 points.

Also in the Public League, Lincoln forward Michael Bowlers got close to the school's 49-year-old school record of 51 points in a game when he poured in a career-best 45 and also grabbed 18 rebounds in a 90-67 win at FitzSimons. Anton Fletcher added 10 rebounds.

Vaux earned its first Division A win by handing visiting Constitution its first loss in the division, 61-59. Rysheed Jordan made 4 of 5 foul shots in the final 3 minutes to keep Vaux in front and complete a 22-point performance.

Down by two points after three quarters, Sankofa Freedom followed Luis Martinez's six fourth-period points to a 54-43 win at Science Leadership. Anthony Downing grabbed nine rebounds.

Engineering & Science combined Tajhere McCall's 11 rebounds and six assists with scoring by Dijon Eggleton (12), Omari Franklin (12), and Sibley Robinson (11) to beat visiting Paul Robeson, 49-47.

Terrence Murray's basket with 9.9 seconds left gave Olney a 56-54 win at Palumbo.

Guard Kelly Sanders scored 22 points and went inside for 11 rebounds while aiding Pennsylvania School for the Deaf's 51-40 win over visiting Community Academy of Philadelphia.

Ben Holl nailed four three-pointers in a 32-point game, boosting Friends Select past host West-Mont Christian, 76-32.

Church Farm improved to 7-1 with a 64-47 win over visiting Chichester in which Howard Sellars scored scored half of his 22 points in the opening period.
