Haverford's Berman takes Inter-Ac golf title

After finishing 6 strokes off the lead last season, the Haverford School's Cole Berman captured first place in the Bert Linton Inter-Ac League Golf Championship on Monday.

After finishing 6 strokes off the lead last season, the Haverford School's Cole Berman captured first place in the Bert Linton Inter-Ac League Golf Championship on Monday.

The sophomore carded a 75 on the par-72 Militia Hill Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club. Last season's champion, Malvern Prep's Michael Davis finished in fourth place with a 79.

Dan Furman and Bobby Hoppner both finished 3 strokes behind Berman.

Six other Fords finished among the top 10, including Timmy Brooks and Scott Jaster who both shot 8-over par.

PIAA Championships. Central Bucks West senior T.J. Summers is 2 strokes off the lead after the first day of the State Championship in Heritage Hills Country Club in York.

Garrett Browning of West Allegheny will enter Tuesday's final round in first place after shooting an even par 71.

Holy Ghost Prep's Chris Crawford shot 6-over par to finish the first day in 13th place.

Soccer

Will Randall scored off an assist from Henry Bushnell with one minute left in the second half to lift Germantown Friends over visiting Friends School League foe George School, 2-1.

Bushnell added a goal for the Tigers earlier in the half and Luke Scott posted the win with nine saves. With the win, Germantown Friends clinched the fourth seed in the league playoffs.

Tri-County. Joe Napoli and Chris Morrell both scored a pair of goals and Mercy Vocational easily knocked off visiting Wyncote. Dan Bagnell and Dom Morrell added goals for the Monarchs.

Elsewhere in the Tri-County, host Perkiomen School rallied in the second half to down Kimberton Waldorf, 3-1. Jason Lee, Derek Maeng and Dan Noh added goals for the Indians.

A.J. Bishop scored three times and added an assist to easily lead Phelps to a 8-0 win at Collegium. Sam Mamlouk scored twice and both Francisco DeLeon and Vernon Williams added a pair of assists.
