After winning nearly 100 games in 13 years, Dan Bielli has resigned as Archbishop Carroll football coach.

Bielli, chairman of Carroll's health and physical education department, compiled a 98-55 record in two stints with the Patriots. He coached Carroll in 1995 and returned, after two seasons at nearby Kennedy-Kenrick and one as Carroll's freshman coach, in 1999.

"I'm really excited because I want the free time," said Bielli, an avid bicyclist. "It becomes more precious as you age. It's time to let a younger guy come in and take over."

Bielli guided the Patriots to Catholic League Blue Division championships in 2000, '01, and '02. The 2000 squad went 13-0 and beat Bishop McDevitt, 42-10, for top league honors.

For his career, Bielli, a graduate of West Catholic and West Chester University, went 106-70.
