Tues. Pa. boys’ roundup: Math, Civics & Sciences wins in rout

He scored just three points as Math, Civics & Sciences pulled off a convincing win over Marian Catholic. But he made up for lost time in a second-round game Tuesday.

Riddick sparked a huge third quarter scoring effort and led the Mighty Elephants past District 4 champion Millville, 78-38, at Milton Hershey School.

Math, Civics & Sciences (23-5) built a 31-23 lead by halftime, but outscored Millville in the third quarter, 24-2, to take an insurmountable 55-25 lead after switching from a man-to-man defense to a 1-2-2 zone.

Riddick dropped in 11 of his game-high 25 points in the third quarter and converted five-three pointers for the Mighty Elephants who also got 13 points from Warren Dogan.

In another second-round game at Milton Hershey, Church Farm made up for the lone blemish on its record by beating Greenwood, 45-30.

Church Farm (24-1) held Greenwood to four points in the first half and got 18 points from Howard Sellars.

Math, Civics & Sciences will play Church Farm in a quarterfinal game on Friday at a site and time to be determined.

In a second-round game at Hazleton, District 12 champion Constitution used a big third quarter scoring surge to get past District 4 runner-up Mansfield, 67-53.

The Generals (24-5) held a 28-25 lead at halftime, but a 19-7 scoring effort in the third quarter propelled them to victory.

Constitution got a balanced scoring effort led by Xavier Harris who picked up 16 points and Daiquan Walker who collected 14 points.

The Generals will play a quarterfinal game against Reading Central Catholic on Friday at a site and time to be determined.

PIAA Class AAA. Charles Cooper nailed a pair of free throws with six seconds left and secured Octorara's 50-48 victory over District 4 champion Mifflinburg at Central Dauphin East.

Cooper drained five free throws and notched 10 of his 20 points in the final quarter for the District 1 champion Braves.

Octorara will play District 12 champion Neumann-Goretti in a quarterfinal game on Friday at a site and time to be determined.

In a second-round game in Reading, Tyler Juchno scored 16 points, but District 1 runner-up Holy Ghost Prep fell to District 3 runner-up Eastern York, 45-42.

Ice Hockey

No. 11 seed Spring-Ford picked up three goals in the second period and dispatched No. 3 seed Washington Township (N.J.), 4-2, in a Flyers Cup Class AA quarterfinal game at Skate Zone in Voorhees, N.J.

Sean McCabe struck for a pair of goals, Tom Kisela added a goal and an assist and Tyler Hoffman chipped in with two assists for the Rams.
