Fri. Pa. girls’ roundup: Chester earns share of Del-Val championship

Chester needed to win on consecutive nights to claim a share of the Del-Val League basketball title, and the Clippers accomplished the back end of that feat with a 72-35 win over visiting Interboro on Friday night.

Georria Clark, a senior guard, made five three-pointers and finished with 34 points for the Clippers (11-10 overall, 7-1 league), who completed the league season tied with Academy Park. They beat Academy Park, 78-44, on Thursday night.

Public. Host Northeast survived an Edison comeback and posted a 58-49 overtime win in a playoff game.

The Vikings did it with four players hitting two free throws apiece in the overtime. One of those players, Tynerra Brown, finished with 20 points. Brittney Lambert and Taylour Jones added 14 points apiece.

Edison used a 15-4 fourth-quarter run, capped by Onairys Medina's putback at the buzzer, to force the overtime.

Central earned a spot in the next round with a 58-40 win over visiting Palumbo, behind Najah Jacobs' 15 points and nine assists.

Siena Childs scored 12 points and Traneya White added 10 more as host Girls High rolled past Overbrook, 36-20, in a first-round playoff game.

In other first-round playoff games:

Frankford got back-to-back baskets from Waynesha Griffin and Tanaya Lofton-Williams to take a 33-32 lead and clamped down defensively the rest of the way in a 50-36 win over visiting Lincoln.

Prep Charter placed all five starters in double figures, led by Naderra Lee's 17 points, in a 79-14 win over visiting Bodine.

Kahleah Copper added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies.Appearing in its first-ever playoff game, host Del-Val Charter outlasted University City, 39-37, as Ciara Cunningham-Kent hit a free throw with 1.9 seconds left for the game's final point.

University City went on a 16-1 fourth-quarter run to get back into the game as Mykea Hall scored 10 of her 19 points during that span.Del-Val Charter travels to Prep Charter for a semifinal playoff game on Monday.

Simon Gratz got 14 points from Sherrie Satchel and 12 more from Bianca Anderson in a 55-27 win over visiting Ben Franklin.

Freire Charter got 24 points and 20 rebounds from freshman forward Chelsea Woods in a 58-19 win over visiting Mastery Charter.

Host Strawberry Mansion got 28 points from Betty Teachey and 23 more from Roneesha Rollins in a 66-42 win over Parkway West. The Hoyas got 27 points from Tanisha Chambers.

High School of the Future outscored Communications Tech, 9-2, in overtime to post a 65-58 win. The Phoenix got 40 points from Khadijah Gardner, including all 14 of their fourth-quarter points. Gardner hit a basket with 50 seconds left to force overtime. Shiquita Williams led the Firebirds with 26 points and nine rebounds but fouled out in the fourth quarter. Niemma Aiken and Zhane Stones each scored six points in the extra session.

Destiny Russell made five of her six free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with 20 points to lead Imhotep Charter to a 43-41 win at Paul Robeson.

The Huskies got 24 points from Tiffany Then.Engineering and Science got 10 points off the bench from Dahne Brown-Boyer in a 66-16 win over visiting Parkway Center City. Brittany Hrynko and Yolana Snipes led the way with 12 points apiece for the Engineers (14-6).

Catholic. Kacy Peyton went the length of the court and drilled a three-pointer from the left side of the foul line at the buzzer to give host St. Hubert a 56-55 Catholic League basketball win over Archbishop Prendergast.

Brittany Wood scored 19 points as Archbishop Ryan capitalized on free-throw shooting to beat visiting Lansdale Catholic, 47-44. The Ragdolls shot 9 for 12 at the line, and the Crusaders were 11 for 24.

Inter-Ac. Visiting Episcopal Academy got 23 points and 15 rebounds from 6-foot-2 sophomore forward Megan Quinn in handing Germantown Academy its first loss of the league season, 63-60.

The Patriots fell to 21-4 overall, 11-1 league. The Churchwomen (15-9, 7-5) also got 12 points from Kristen Hinckley.

Kathleen Fitzpatrick scored 15 points and added three assists for host Notre Dame in its 54-26 win over Agnes Irwin.

The Irish (17-9, 7-5) also got 10 points each from Megan McGurk and Kristen Carr.Suburban One National. Jessica Schmidt had 12 points and eight rebounds for host Abington in a 62-40 win over Truman.

Host William Tennent got 11 points from Ashley Alden in a 56-41 win over Pennsbury.

Suburban One American. Cassidy Koenig hit five three-pointers and finished with 19 points to lead Upper Merion to a 44-29 win over Upper Moreland. Koenig now has 88 threes in 22 games.

Suburban One Continental. Courtney McManus scored 18 points for Central Bucks East in its 50-32 win over Souderton.

Tri-County. Nicole Pupillo scored 22 points for host Perkiomen School in its 38-21 win over Collegium Charter.

Mercy Vocational had a 32-9 lead going into the fourth quarter and survived a scoreless fourth quarter in a 32-28 win over visiting West-Mont Christian. Teharah Worrell led the Monarchs with 10 points.

The Indians led, 27-10, after three quarters.

Bicentennial. Morrisville closed out its regular season with a 50-26 win at Calvary Christian as Kievanna Lacey scored 19 points.

Nonleague. Host West Chester Henderson had 25 points and 11 rebounds from Emily Torrance in a 70-66 win over Academy Park.
