Hand "all over the place" for C.H. West

Harrison Hand's biggest contribution to Cherry Hill West's season-opening victory might have been on defense.

Or maybe it was as a receiver.

Or perhaps as a runner.

"He's all over the place," Cherry Hill West coach Brian Wright said of Hand, a 6-foot, 185-pound junior standout for the Lions.

Hand scored two touchdowns in Cherry Hill West's 27-2 victory over Triton - one as a receiver and one as a runner.

He also was a cornerback on a defense that didn't allow a touchdown for the second consecutive game, including last season's finale against crosstown rival Cherry Hill East on Thanksgiving eve.

"I'll do whatever the team needs," Hand said. "I just want to make plays."

Hand mostly lines up as a receiver on offense. But he carries the football on jet sweeps and end arounds, and also likely will see some time at running back.

"He has that 4.4 speed," Wright said of Hand's time in the 40-yard dash. "You see him just running away from people."

Hand has emerged as one of South Jersey's top players in the class of 2017. He has received scholarship offers from Rutgers, Temple and Old Dominion after shining at camps and showcases during the off-season.

"It makes you want to work harder," Hand said of his increased visibility.

Hand will lead Cherry Hill West, the No. 20 team in The Inquirer Top 25, against No. 12 Shawnee in a West Jersey Football League inter-divisional game Friday night on the Lions' field.

"It's a big opportunity," Hand said. "We've got to get the 'W.' "
